Tenerife celebrates a record 11 Michelin stars
Tenerife has hit a new culinary milestone, now boasting 11 Michelin stars, the highest number the island has ever achieved. Just a decade ago, this level of international recognition would have seemed impossible.
What makes this year especially notable is that only one of the award-winning restaurants is not inside a luxury five-star hotel. That distinction belongs to El Taller de Seve Díaz, in Puerto de la Cruz, led by local chef Seve Díaz, a self-taught talent who grew up in Punta Brava and has spent years perfecting his craft.
Díaz, who was back in the kitchen within hours of the announcement, said on social media: “Still learning, still dreaming. Today with one more star of excitement — a star that pushes us to give our best. Thank you for everything.”
His restaurant focuses on fresh local produce, Canarian wines, and seasonal ingredients sourced partly from a farm he and his wife recently bought in Garachico. With a waiting list of around three months, El Taller now truly stands beside Spain’s most in-demand restaurants.

Tenerife’s luxury hotels continue to play a huge role in its gastronomic success — but Seve Díaz has proven that independent restaurants can shine just as brightly.
With visitors increasingly choosing destinations based on food experiences, Tenerife’s Michelin success is another major boost for tourism and local pride.
