A man has been remanded in custody after police seized around four kilos of cocaine and €25,000 in cash during a major drugs operation in Lanzarote.

National Police officers arrested the suspect as part of an investigation into the alleged distribution of large quantities of cocaine across the island.

The investigation was carried out by the drugs unit of the Judicial Police Brigade in Arrecife after officers gathered evidence linking the man to suspected drug trafficking.

Police intercepted a vehicle being driven by the suspect and discovered three packages containing approximately three kilos of cocaine inside.

The man was arrested, and officers subsequently carried out court-authorised searches at two properties linked to him.

During the searches, police found just over another kilogram of cocaine as well as €25,000 in cash. According to investigators, most of the money had been hidden inside a freezer.

In total, officers seized approximately four kilos of cocaine, the cash and a vehicle as part of the operation.

The suspect was brought before the relevant judicial authority following his arrest and was remanded in custody while the case is investigated.

The operation forms part of ongoing police efforts to tackle the supply and distribution of illegal drugs in Lanzarote.
