Strong wind blows over a palm tree that crushes a pedestrian in Puerto del Carmen

A woman was hurt yesterday in Lanzarote when the wind blew over part of a palm tree in Puerto del Carmen, that landed on her literally ‘crushing’ her on the ground.

The incident occurred on the main high street of the tourist town, and the Emergency Services were dispatched after receiving an alert informing them that she needed urgent medical assistance.

Firefighters were the first to arrive at the scene, where they found the middle-aged woman from Tías sitting on the pavement next to the stump and branches that had landed on her.

After assessing the severity of her injuries, paramedics took her to Molina Orosa Hospital for further treatment, however, it appears that the entire trunk of the tree did not fall on her, only part of the heart and branches, resulting in a less intense impact.

The fire brigade cut down the rest of the tree and cleared the debris to make it safe for the public walking by, and police coordinated pedestrians and traffic while they did so.
