Two people have been arrested after a man was violently attacked and robbed during a car sale meeting in La Aldea de San Nicolás in Gran Canaria. One of those arrested is under 18-years-old.

According to the Guardia Civil, the victim had arranged to meet the suspects over the sale of a car. During the meeting, the pair reportedly began delaying the deal with excuses before suddenly attacking him.

Police say one of the suspects grabbed the victim from behind and put him in a chokehold to try and overpower him. The victim managed to break free, but the struggle continued, and one of the attackers allegedly pulled out a knife and tried to stab him.

Fearing for his safety, the man handed over cash and personal belongings to the attackers. Around €3,000 in cash, a mobile phone and motorbike keys were stolen.

Officers launched an investigation after the robbery and quickly identified one of the suspects using descriptions provided by the victim. Police later showed him a series of photographs, where he recognised one of the alleged attackers.

The first suspect was arrested on 1st May by Guardia Civil officers in La Aldea. A second suspect was later identified and arrested the same day, with police confirming he was a minor.

Investigators managed to recover part of the stolen money, around €1,400, during the operation. The case has now been passed to a court in Santa María de Guía, as well as the juvenile prosecutor’s office in Las Palmas, because one of the suspects is underage.

The Guardia Civil has warned people to be cautious when arranging private sales with strangers, especially in isolated areas or when carrying large amounts of cash.
