A man has been seriously injured after suffering a diving incident at Playa Chica in Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote, this morning (Thursday) at around 10:15 am, according to the Centro Coordinador de Emergencias y Seguridad 112 Canarias (CECOES).
Emergency medical personnel treated the man on the sand after he experienced complications during his dive. He was then taken by ambulance in a serious condition to Hospital Doctor José Molina Orosa.
Playa Chica is a popular diving spot in Lanzarote, attracting both tourists and experienced divers throughout the year.
Authorities have not yet released further details about the cause of the latest incident at Playa Chica. However, it comes after a series of diving emergencies across the islands in recent months, many involving holidaymakers.
Over the summer, a 49-year-old woman suffered a cardiac arrest during a dive and had to be rushed to hospital in critical condition. Last year, two men tragically lost their lives at Playa Chica on the same day, one while scuba diving and the other while freediving near an inflatable boat
These cases have raised concerns among local emergency services, who continue to remind divers to check their equipment, follow safety protocols, and be aware of changing sea conditions before entering the water.
