Temperatures will ease slightly across the Canary Islands today, Saturday, bringing some relief after recent hot weather, although strong trade winds and rough seas will continue to affect much of the archipelago.

According to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), temperatures will fall mainly in inland areas, mid-altitudes and higher ground, while coastal areas will see little change.

The forecast also includes light calima at higher levels over the eastern province, affecting Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.

Yellow warning for rough seas

AEMET has maintained a yellow weather warning for rough seas across Tenerife and the western islands, plus Gran Canaria.

North-easterly winds are expected to blow at Force 5 to 6, strengthening to Force 7 in some coastal areas and in the channels between the islands. Sea conditions will be rough to very rough, with the possibility of locally high seas and a north swell producing waves of up to two metres.

Tenerife
Cloudy intervals are expected across the north of the island, with a slight chance of light drizzle in north-eastern mid-altitude areas during the early hours. Elsewhere, skies will remain mostly clear.

Temperatures will fall inland, while remaining largely unchanged along the coast. Strong trade winds are expected on the south-east coast, the far north-west and the southern side of the Santa Cruz metropolitan area, where occasional strong gusts are possible.
General temperatures: Low of 24°C with high of 29°C.

Gran Canaria
The north will see periods of cloud, particularly early and late in the day, with a small chance of light drizzle in mid-altitude areas before dawn. The rest of the island will enjoy mostly sunny skies.

Temperatures will drop inland, although parts of the south-east and western midlands could still exceed 30°C. Strong trade winds with occasional powerful gusts are expected on the south-east and north-west coasts.
General temperatures: Low of 23°C with high of 28°C.

Lanzarote
Mostly sunny with some cloud in the north and light calima at higher levels. Temperatures will remain largely unchanged.

Strong trade winds are expected, particularly inland and across southern parts of the island, where isolated strong gusts are possible.
General temperatures: Low of 22°C with high of 28°C.

Fuerteventura
Generally fine with some cloud in the west and light calima at higher levels.

Temperatures will remain similar or fall slightly. Strong trade winds will affect inland areas and the southern slopes of the Jandía peninsula, where occasional strong gusts are likely.
General temperatures: Low of 22°C with high of 28°C.

Authorities are advising residents and visitors to continue taking care along the coast, as strong winds and rough seas are expected to persist throughout the weekend.
