A man has died after being hit by a car on the FV-2 in Fuerteventura on Monday afternoon, in a tragic incident that occurred near the Las Salinas turn-off in the municipality of Antigua.
The incident happened at around 1:30pm, which is when the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) received multiple alerts reporting that a pedestrian had been run over on the busy stretch of road.
The FV-2 is one of the island’s main highways, linking Puerto del Rosario with the southern tourist areas, and traffic was affected for some time as emergency teams worked at the scene.
CECOES immediately deployed all necessary emergency resources, including a medicalised ambulance and a basic life support ambulance from the Canarian Emergency Service (SUC), along with units from the Guardia Civil.
Upon arrival, paramedics found the victim in cardiorespiratory arrest. Medical staff initiated advanced resuscitation protocols while basic CPR was already being carried out, but despite sustained efforts, they were unable to revive him. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers from the Guardia Civil secured the area, redirected traffic around the incident, and have opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of the accident, including how the pedestrian came to be on the road and the involvement of the vehicle’s driver. No further details on the victim’s identity have been released as yet.
The incident has once again raised concerns about pedestrian safety along certain sections of the FV-2, where high speeds and limited crossing points can increase risk.
