Passenger arrested with marijuana in luggage at Tenerife South Airport

A man has been arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking after marijuana and cannabis edibles were discovered in his luggage at Tenerife South Airport.

Customs Surveillance officers from Spain’s Tax Agency carried out the operation alongside Guardia Civil officers from the airport’s Fiscal and Border Section following the arrival of a flight.

Officers became suspicious of one passenger because of his apparent nervousness and inconsistencies in some of the answers he gave during a routine check.

They subsequently searched his luggage and reportedly discovered five vacuum-packed packages containing marijuana buds, together with numerous small bags of cannabis gummies and other edible products.

The passenger was arrested on suspicion of a drug-trafficking offence, and officers began further enquiries to establish whether anyone else may have been involved.

Investigators later identified a second passenger who had travelled on the same flight and who is also being investigated in connection with the case.

The arrested man, the seized substances and the relevant police reports have now been handed over to the appropriate judicial authorities.
