A one-year-old baby was rescued yesterday evening (Thursday) after becoming accidentally locked inside a car on Calle San Borondón in Playa Honda, Lanzarote. According to the island’s Emergency and Security Consortium, the incident occurred just after 6:00 pm when they received an alert that a child was trapped inside a vehicle.
Firefighters were quickly dispatched to the location given, along with officers from the Local Police and the Guardia Civil. Upon arrival, emergency crews managed to open the car and safely reach the child, who was found to be in good condition.
The baby was handed over to their mother after the rescue, and fortunately, no medical attention was required.
Each year, similar cases are reported across the islands, particularly during the warmer months when temperatures inside cars can rise rapidly, creating dangerous conditions.
Firefighters in Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote have all carried out similar rescues in recent years, often after parents or passers-by raised the alarm.
Authorities continue to stress the importance of checking vehicles carefully before locking them and never leaving children or animals unattended, even for a few minutes.
