One killed and one seriously injured as a car plunges down a cliff in Tinajo

A fatal accident has left one dead and one seriously injured after a car plunged down a cliff into the rocky area of ​​Montaña Picacho in La Santa, which is in the Lanzarote municipality of Tinajo, yesterday afternoon (Saturday).

The Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) received an alert informing of the accident, so dispatched the Guardia Civil, Fire Brigade, and ambulances to the scene of the accident, where the car was wedged on the side of the cliff in a precarious position.

Firefighters had to cut free the two people who were trapped inside the car, one of them, the male driver, was already dead due to head injuries sustained by the rocks as the car rolled down the bank, and the other, a female, who was in serious condition.

Paramedics treated the woman at the scene before she was transferred by helicopter to the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife for emergency treatment.

The couple have been identified as a married couple from the municipality of Tinajo, who apparently were going through various family problems. At the moment, the causes of the fateful accident have not been revealed.
