More than 700 hotel properties are currently on the market in Spain, with over half of them concentrated in just 10 provinces, according to the latest report from property portal Idealista. The figures highlight the continued investor focus on Spain’s popular coastal destinations.
Alicante leads the nationwide ranking, with 124 hotels for sale, around 9% of the total. Close behind are Málaga, with 111 hotel listings (8%), and Granada, with 88 (6%).
The coastal trend continues with the Balearic Islands (83), Valencia (65), and Girona (63) also featuring strongly. The only provinces breaking the Mediterranean dominance are Madrid, which appears lower in the top 10 with 52 hotels, and Asturias (54), the only northern province included.
Canary Islands: Emerging Hotel-Sale Opportunities
Although the top-10 ranking is dominated by mainland provinces and the Balearics, the Canary Islands are also showing up among current hotel-for-sale listings, making the archipelago an attractive option for those looking to invest off the mainland.
- According to property portals, there are several hotel, apartment-hotel and bungalow–resort listings across the Canary Islands.
- Offers range from boutique or small hotels to larger complexes, with various standards — from simple hostel-style facilities to beachfront resorts.
- Islands like Gran Canaria and Tenerife already have active listings — some marketed as turnkey businesses, others as properties to renovate or repurpose.
Given the enduring appeal of the Canary Islands for holiday-makers and the growing demand for holiday accommodation, these listings may represent attractive opportunities for investors — especially those looking to tap into the tourism-driven rental or hospitality market.
Alicante, Madrid and Valencia are at the centre of hotel sales
Zooming in at the local level, major cities and tourism hotspots dominate availability. The city of Alicante ranks first with 31 hotels on the market, followed by Calpe, also in Alicante, with 23.
Madrid (22) and Valencia (20) each have more than 20 properties up for sale, confirming strong movement in Spain’s biggest urban markets.
On the Costa del Sol, Marbella stands out with 21 hotels for sale, ahead of Málaga city (18) and Estepona (13), reflecting the ongoing strength of the region’s hospitality sector.
Top tourist resorts also feature prominently, reinforcing that the majority of hotel opportunities are clustered across the Mediterranean, from the Costa Brava to the Costa del Sol and the Balearics.
