Man rescued from inside rubbish lorry after sleeping in a bin

A man narrowly escaped a fatal accident yesterday (Sunday) after being found inside a garbage truck in Arrecife in Lanzarote.

The dramatic incident unfolded when bin men, conducting their routine rubbish collection, heard cries for help coming from inside the main body of the truck.

Realising the gravity of the situation, they immediately halted the compaction process on the lorry and called the police.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the man, who is believed to be homeless, had entered a rubbish bin to get some protection from the weather and some sleep, completely unaware of the dangers of being collected along with the waste.

He was inadvertently loaded into the truck, where fortunately his cries for help were heard in time by workers on the truck.

When the police opened the truck to release the rubbish, they found the man alive and took him to hospital for treatment to some minor injuries. The quick response of the sanitation workers and the intervention of the police ensured a safe outcome, preventing what could have been a tragic accident.
