A man was rescued during the early hours of this morning (Wednesday) after falling from the seafront promenade onto rocks in Playa Blanca, southern Lanzarote.

The accident happened at around 1.30am near the waterfront. Emergency services were alerted that a person had fallen onto large concrete coastal barriers and needed help.

A doctor-led ambulance and a basic life-support ambulance were sent to the area, along with firefighters, the Guardia Civil and the Local Police.

The man had suffered a heavy blow to the head and several cuts to his body. Emergency crews lit up the area and helped carry him to an ambulance using nearby steps.

Paramedics treated him for multiple moderate injuries before taking him to Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife.

A similar rescue took place in Puerto Calero in May, when a 54-year-old British holidaymaker fell onto rocks beside a sea wall near a hotel. He was rescued by firefighters and taken to the same hospital with multiple moderate injuries.

In January, four young tourists were swept into the sea at Los Charcones in southern Lanzarote after being struck by a powerful wave during a coastal weather alert. Three survived, but a 20-year-old American tourist died.
