Man pulls gun on DJ in Lanzarote nightclub
Police in Lanzarote are investigating a violent incident at a popular nightlife venue in Arrecife after a man allegedly threatened a DJ with a gun in the early hours of Monday morning. The confrontation began just after 11.00 pm on Sunday, 10th August, when the man, described by police as being of Latin American origin, started a fight inside a well-known events venue near El Reducto beach.
The resident DJ intervened over the microphone, urging the man to stop and allow the night to continue without disruption. The man backed down at the time, and the music resumed.
However, the situation escalated when the venue closed at around midnight. According to police, the same man approached the DJ, pointed a gun at him, and threatened him for having called out his behaviour earlier in the night.
Patrons intervened, restraining the suspect outside the venue. It remains unclear whether the firearm was real or an imitation. The club’s management has handed over all security footage to the police.
The man, who police say lives as an illegal occupant in an apartment complex in Costa Teguise, had been at the venue with a group of six couples. After the incident, the group moved to another establishment on Avenida Marítima, opposite El Reducto beach, where they allegedly caused further trouble and damage to the terrace. Witnesses reported the suspect grabbing a parasol from the terrace and using it to strike customers and passers-by.
The disturbances continued into the early hours in the nearby Calle Triana area of Arrecife, where a third violent incident broke out, resulting in at least two people being stabbed. Police officers, who had been tracking the group, managed to arrest the man in the early hours of Monday.
The DJ filed a formal complaint with the National Police the same day, and a fast-track court hearing was held following the suspect’s arrest by Arrecife’s Local Police. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the incidents and whether the weapon used in the nightclub was genuine.
