The Guardia Civil has arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly trafficking drugs on both a wholesale and retail basis, following an investigation in the tourist resort of Playa Blanca in Lanzarote.
The arrest was made on 13th August by officers from the Investigation Unit of the Yaiza Guardia Civil, as part of “Operation Calcetines”, which began after receiving intelligence about significant drug activity in the area.
During surveillance, officers identified what is commonly referred to as a “drug handover” and moved in to detain the suspect. Based on evidence gathered during the operation, the Guardia Civil requested and obtained a search warrant from the Court of Instruction No. 3 in Arrecife.
A search of the man’s home and vehicle uncovered a kilo of high-purity cocaine, half a kilo of already mixed cocaine, and a further 500 grams of cutting substances. Officers also seized precision scales, packaging materials, and sealing equipment used to prepare doses for sale.
In addition to cocaine, investigators found other substances including ecstasy tablets, doses of LSD, and a large quantity of Rivotril pills, a benzodiazepine medication. Around 200 grams of hashish and more than €7,000 in cash, allegedly linked to drug sales, were also confiscated.
The suspect appeared before the Court of Instruction No. 3 in Arrecife on the same day as his arrest, where a judge ordered his provisional imprisonment while the investigation continues.
