Los Cristianos seafront renovation delayed again until 2027

The long-awaited renovation of the Las Vistas beachfront promenade in Los Cristianos has been delayed again, with work now not expected to begin until sometime in 2027.

The project affects almost one kilometre of seafront alongside one of the busiest and most popular beaches in South Tenerife.

Both Arona Council and the Tenerife Cabildo have completed the administrative procedures under their responsibility, but the project is still awaiting the necessary authorisation from COSTAS, Spain's General Directorate for the Coast and Sea.

Without that approval, construction cannot begin.

Major Overhaul of the Promenade

The planned improvements cover the promenade running alongside Playa de Las Vistas beach, an area used every day by thousands of residents and holidaymakers walking between Los Cristianos and Playa de Las Américas.

The project is intended to modernise the seafront and improve accessibility, landscaping and public facilities along the route.

The existing promenade has been in need of renovation for years, particularly because of its intensive use and the importance of Las Vistas to Arona's tourism industry.

However, the timetable has repeatedly been pushed back as the project works its way through the different administrative procedures and permissions required for development within Spain's coastal zone.

Work Now Expected In 2027

The latest timetable means construction is no longer expected to begin during 2026.

Subject to the outstanding coastal authorisation being granted and the remaining procedures being completed, work is now anticipated to start during 2027.

The delay is significant for Los Cristianos, where Las Vistas forms part of the main pedestrian seafront connecting some of South Tenerife's busiest tourism areas.

Until the outstanding permission is received, however, there is no definitive date for construction to begin.
