Agents from the Policía Nacional have arrested a lawyer in Lanzarote for allegedly facilitating irregular immigration by issuing fake rental contracts to support residence applications. The arrest followed a months-long investigation by the Local Immigration and Borders Brigade in Arrecife.
The probe began after authorities detected multiple inconsistencies in documents submitted to the Immigration Office. Between January and April 2025, officers reviewed more than 30 applications linked to family reunification cases (a legal process that allows foreign residents or citizens to bring close family members to live with them in the country where they legally reside), and uncovered what appeared to be a deliberate pattern of fake housing contracts.
Investigators say these fraudulent documents were used to falsely prove the existence of suitable accommodation that did not actually exist. The lawyer allegedly acted as the legal representative for the applicants, using her professional status to make the paperwork appear legitimate and enable the irregular approval of residency permits.
Police highlighted the seriousness of the case, stressing that the suspect is accused of abusing the trust and responsibility attached to her profession, deliberately bypassing immigration controls.
The Policía Nacional has warned that this type of fraud will not go unpunished and that they maintain active surveillance to ensure immigration procedures are carried out legally, protecting the system from being exploited through fraudulent practices.
