International Beach Volleyball tournament attracts over 600 athletes to Puerto del Carmen

Puerto del Carmen played host to the 2024 International Beach Volleyball Tournament over the weekend, attracting more than 630 athletes to the resort in Lanzarote. This prestigious event, held in the popular tourist town, showcased top-tier volleyball talent and drew enthusiastic support from both participants and spectators.

The event, promoted by the local municipality of Tías, received high praise for its success in both participation and organisation. Tías’ Mayor, José Juan Cruz, along with the Sports and Beaches Councillors, Ismael Cruz and Christopher Notario, were actively involved throughout the tournament, ensuring it ran smoothly and providing support to the players.

In preparation for the tournament, the Playa Grande beach was equipped with 24 beach volleyball courts, a small water volleyball installation, support tents, and seating for spectators. The event also featured live music and a variety of dining options, enhancing the overall experience for attendees.

Tournament Highlights

- Mixed Category: The Gran Canaria duo Lucy Monteiro and Sergio Camacho emerged victorious, winning the final with a score of 2 sets to 1 against Venezuela’s Valentina Loaiza and Italy’s Filippo Brentegani.

- Women’s Category: Lucy Monteiro, paired with María Sevillano, clinched the title by defeating Valentina Loaiza and Elena Falcón 2-0.

- Men’s Category: Orlando Pérez and Filippo Brentegani took the championship, overcoming José Osado and Guillermo Gómez from mainland Spain with a 2-1 win.

The tournament not only highlighted the high level of competition but also Lanzarote’s growing reputation as a premier destination for international sporting events.
