Thick fog has disrupted operations at Tenerife North Airport this morning (Thursday), forcing four incoming flights to divert because of poor visibility.
Aena confirmed that adverse weather conditions around Tenerife North-Ciudad de La Laguna Airport prevented several aircraft from landing normally.
Four incoming flights affected
According to the latest information from Aena, the four affected flights were arriving from Málaga, A Coruña, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria.
The flight from Málaga was diverted to Gran Canaria, while aircraft arriving from A Coruña and Lanzarote were redirected to Tenerife South Airport.
The flight from Gran Canaria was unable to land and returned to its airport of origin.
The disruption was caused by fog around Tenerife North reducing visibility and making it impossible for the affected aircraft to complete their approaches safely.
No cancellations reported
Despite the disruption, no flight cancellations had been reported by Aena at the time of the latest update, with the problems affecting arrivals rather than forcing airlines to cancel services altogether.
Passengers travelling through Tenerife North today are advised to check the latest status of their flight with their airline or through Aena's flight-information service before travelling to the airport.
