First baby born in the Canary Islands in 2026 is a boy
The first baby of 2026 born in a public hospital in the Canary Islands arrived in La Palma, where a boy was delivered at the University Hospital of La Palma at 12:07am on 1st January, weighing 2.8 kilograms (lb and 3oz).
Across the archipelago, the first birth in Gran Canaria took place shortly afterwards at 12:29am in the University Maternal and Child Hospital of the Canary Islands. The newborn, also a boy, weighed 3.8 kilos.
In Tenerife, the first birth of the year occurred at 12:46am at the University Hospital Nuestra Señora de Candelaria. The baby, a girl, weighed 3.4 kilos. All three mothers and babies are reported to be safe and healthy.
No other public hospitals in the Canary Islands reported births in the early hours of 2026.
