Firefighters were called out on Friday night after a toddler became accidentally locked inside a car at the Centro Bulevar shopping centre in Arrecife, Lanzarote.
The Canary Islands Emergency Coordination Centre (CECOES) received a call at around 9.30pm reporting that a person had mistakenly left their keys inside the car, leaving the vehicle locked with their 22-month-old baby still inside.
Emergency services were immediately mobilised due to the urgency of the situation, and units from Arrecife Local Police and the Fire Brigade were sent to the scene.
Thanks to their quick response, firefighters were able to gain access to the vehicle and safely rescue the child. Fortunately, the baby was found to be in perfect health and did not require any medical attention.
The incident ended without further complications, but authorities are reminding drivers to always double-check their keys and surroundings to prevent similar frightening situations.
