Emergency declared at Lanzarote Airport after bomb scare on TUI plane from UK

An emergency was declared at César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport this morning, Thursday, following a bomb scare on a TUI aircraft that had landed from the UK.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:55am when a handwritten note, enclosed in an envelope, was handed to one of the pilots. The note claimed there was a bomb on board the plane, according to the Lanzarote Emergency Services.

The aircraft, flight BY6422, had departed from Cardiff at 7:00am and landed in Lanzarote just before 11:00am. Upon arrival, passengers were quickly evacuated for safety reasons, and a large emergency operation was put into action.

Specialist bomb disposal teams (TEDAX), along with airport firefighters, surrounded the aircraft and carried out a thorough inspection of the plane. No explosive device was found, and the threat was quickly determined to be a false alarm.

According to sources consulted by La Voz de Lanzarote, the aircraft initially reported a possible bomb on board but subsequently confirmed that the alert could be cancelled once it was established that the threat was not credible.

While the aircraft was searched, some departures were temporarily delayed as a precaution.

Authorities are now investigating the incident to determine the origin of the false threat.
