A 75-year-old man is in critical condition following a near-drowning incident on Sunday evening (27th July) at La Concha Beach, located in the municipality of Arrecife, Lanzarote.

The emergency services were alerted at approximately 7:00pm because a man had been pulled unconscious from the water. The Canary Islands Emergency Coordination Centre (CECOES) immediately dispatched medical and police units to the beach.

SUC paramedics provided life-saving care at the beach, and after being stabilised, the man was transported in a medicalised ambulance to Hospital Doctor José Molina Orosa in a critical condition, showing signs of severe respiratory distress consistent with incomplete drowning.

The Local Police also attended the incident, and officers completed the necessary reports and assisted with coordination at the location.

Authorities remind beachgoers, especially the elderly and those with health conditions, to exercise caution while swimming, even in calm waters.
