Eight villages in Lanzarote were left without running water yesterday, Tuesday, as the island continues to endure an intense heatwave, with temperatures climbing close to 40°C.

According to Aguas de Lanzarote y La Graciosa, which is managed by the Lanzarote Water Consortium, the supply interruptions were scheduled to remain in place throughout the day, from 12:00am until 11:59pm.

The outages affected several communities across the island, including:

• El Islote
• Güime
• Tomaren
• San Bartolomé
• Tao (Teguise)
• El Cuchillo
• Tinajo
• Mácher (Tías)

The disruption comes at a particularly difficult time, with Lanzarote experiencing one of the hottest spells of the summer. High temperatures have increased demand for water while also raising concerns for vulnerable residents, particularly older people and those with underlying health conditions.

Although the cuts were announced in advance, the timing has caused frustration for many residents, who are having to cope without running water during extreme daytime temperatures.

No additional explanation has been given by the Water Board regarding the reason for the scheduled interruptions or when normal service will be fully restored beyond the published timetable.

With the heatwave expected to continue, residents are being urged to use any available water responsibly and stay hydrated wherever possible.
