Cruise passenger numbers soar by 24.6% in Lanzarote in early 2025

The Port of Arrecife in Lanzarote has seen a major surge in cruise arrivals during the first five months of 2025, with passenger numbers rising by 24.6% compared to the same period last year.

Between January and May, Arrecife welcomed 344,807 cruise visitors, up from 278,814 in 2024, according to official data released this weekend by the Las Palmas Port Authority (APLP).

Arrecife’s mayor, Yonathan de León, highlighted the strong performance, stating that “all signs point to the city setting a new record for cruise arrivals this year.” The mayor credited part of the growth to the recent opening of new cruise terminals at the Naos and Los Mármoles docks, developed through a public tender by the Port Authority.

“These new facilities will strengthen Arrecife’s role as a key port of call for cruise lines operating in the Canary Islands and North Atlantic circuits,” he added.

Looking ahead, the mayor is optimistic that Arrecife could reach as many as 700,000 cruise passengers by the end of 2025, particularly with the upcoming cruise season starting in September.

The city's debut as a homeport for one of Europe’s major cruise operators is also expected to drive further growth and consolidate Lanzarote’s position as a popular destination for international cruise tourism.
