The Provincial Court of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has ordered squatters to vacate the former Callao Sport Hotel in Callao Salvaje, Costa Adeje, ending nearly nine months of illegal occupation. The ruling gives the occupants 30 days to leave voluntarily or face a forced eviction on 10th December.
The property, owned by Construcciones Domasa S.A., has been closed since the pandemic and was taken over last February when a group reportedly broke in through one of the entrances. Since then, the owners have reported severe deterioration and legal obstacles that delayed any immediate action.
Margarita Domínguez, the company’s sole administrator, was able to enter the premises with a judicial team and described a scene of total devastation. Speaking to COPE Canarias, she said the looting was “deep and systematic.”
“They’ve stolen everything, even the door frames and glass. It’s heartbreaking and shameful to see what they’ve done,” she said.
Domínguez described rooms in ruins, piles of rubbish throughout the building, and extensive structural damage. “The image is horrific,” she added. “They’re living among the rubbish. Some have even been defecating on the floor.”
The case has reignited debate in Tenerife about property rights, squatting laws, and the lack of swift legal recourse for owners facing long-term illegal occupations.
