British teenagers fatal fall from hotel balcony was not alcohol or ‘stupid behaviour’ related

More details are coming to light surrounding the tragic death of a British teenager, who died yesterday after falling from a balcony at an aparthotel in Costa Teguise (Lanzarote), who, it emerged today, was on holiday with his parents.

Sources close to the incident have confirmed that his mum and dad went with him to hospital after he was rushed from the complex in an ambulance for urgent treatment, before succumbing to his injuries in hospital.

Police have confirmed it is being treated as a tragic accident. A source close to the investigation said today: “This was a terrible accident that wasn't alcohol-related or linked to any improper behaviour such as climbing between balconies on the part of the teenager who died.”

“He was on holiday with his parents and they went with him to the hospital. He fell from the second floor. The alarm was raised at 7.30am and he died in hospital four hours later. An investigation is ongoing but foul play has been ruled out.”

The alarm was raised at the three-star Galeon Playa Aparthotel yesterday morning. The British victim, an 18-year-old who Spanish authorities are not naming, died at Doctor Jose Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife just a few hours after the fall, although news of his passing did not emerge until late last night.

A duty court in Arrecife has been placed in charge of the judicial investigation into the incident. It is expected to be notified of autopsy results and a police report in the next few days.
