Emergency teams discovered a dead body yesterday (Sunday) in Lanzarote during the ongoing search for a missing hiker who disappeared earlier in the week.
The find was made at around 11:10am near the Risco de Famara where the man had been hiking on the island, during the search operation launched after he was reported missing last Wednesday.
Following the discovery, a rescue helicopter and officers from the Guardia Civil were immediately deployed to recover the body from the difficult-to-access location, supported by teams from the Consortium for Security and Emergencies, Emerlan, and the Local Police.
While the identity has not yet been officially confirmed, early indications suggest the body may be that of the missing 41-year-old Uruguayan man, a resident on the island, whose disappearance prompted a large-scale search effort.
The Judicial Police have now taken charge of the investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the death. No possibilities are being ruled out at this stage, pending forensic examination of the body.
