Holiday rentals have been the subject of controversy in various tourist destinations, including here in the Canary Islands but this one has drawn special attention.
It is increasingly common for accommodation advertisements to go viral on social media that capture the attention of users due to the surreal nature of what is on offer.
We’ve seen several from someone offering a tent on their roof terrace to a ‘pallet bed’ in the middle of the mountains, but maybe we’ve found the most surreal of them all.
A Twitter user has publicly denounced the rental of a car equipped with a mattress on the island of Lanzarote being advertised as holiday accommodation. It is an old Renault 4 van for which the owner is asking for 40 euros per day plus a deposit.
The tweet shows the advertisement with photos of the small van with a mattress in the back, apparently adapted to be used as a kind of camper van
The person who has shared it has expressed his surprise and discontent at such an announcement, saying: “What Lanzarote was, and what it has now become”.
Apart from the obvious lack of legality, what do you think of it?
