The Lanzarote Cabildo has officially completed the upgrade of a fast-charging point for electric vehicles in Playa Blanca, replacing an outdated unit with a modern, high-performance system. The newly installed charger is located opposite the town’s main bus station and is now fully operational.
According to the Cabildo, the upgrade enhances both the capacity and functionality of the service thanks to the use of next-generation technology.
The project was carried out by the island’s Energy Department, headed by councillor Miguel Ángel Jiménez, and is part of a larger effort to cut pollution from road transport across Lanzarote.
“This new charging point represents a significant step forward in our commitment to sustainable mobility and reducing emissions,” said Jiménez. “We’re continuing to build a reliable charging network across the island, giving electric vehicle users the confidence to travel anywhere in Lanzarote.”
Jiménez added that the new charging station offers the same level of service as others already operating at the Monumento al Campesino and in Arrieta, ensuring consistency and reliability across the network.
The installation contract was awarded to IMESAPI S.A., covering both the supply and installation of the new equipment, with a total investment of €38,283.28.
In addition to the Playa Blanca upgrade, the Cabildo is currently working on similar projects in Costa Teguise, Tinajo, Playa Honda, and Tías, with future installations also planned in Arrecife, Órzola, and Yaiza.
