An 83-year-old man was rescued in the area of Los Pocillos, off the coast of Puerto del Carmen, yesterday afternoon, after drifting at sea for more than an hour unable to return to shore.
The incident occurred around 5:30 near the Hotel San Antonio, when the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) received an alert informing them about a man in trouble in the water.
The EMERLAN emergency response team was immediately activated, deploying the MI.21 rescue helicopter and the EMERLAN-GES vessel based in La Tiñosa.
Rescue teams successfully retrieved the man from the water and handed him over to medical personnel, who conducted an initial assessment before transferring him to hospital for further evaluation.
