An eight-year-old boy is in serious condition after falling from the first floor of a residential building into an interior courtyard in Arrecife, Lanzarote, early on Monday morning.

The incident occurred at around 7:25 am, when the emergency services received a call reporting that a child had fallen from a height inside the property.

Paramedics, Local and National Police, and fire crews were quickly dispatched to the scene where the boy was stabilised before being taken by ambulance to Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital due to the seriousness of his injuries.

At this time, the exact circumstances surrounding the fall remain unclear, and investigations are ongoing.

In recent months, the Canary Islands have seen a number of serious incidents involving children falling from heights.

Back in April, a 14-year-old boy was rushed to hospital after falling from the eighth floor of a building in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. His case remains under investigation.

Just days later, a 13-year-old also fell from a high floor in the same neighbourhood.

More recently, in El Fraile, Tenerife, a 10-year-old boy reportedly jumped from a second-floor balcony, possibly trying to escape alleged mistreatment at home. He is currently recovering in hospital while authorities continue their inquiries.
