A three-year-old girl has died after a drowning incident in the swimming pool of a holiday home in Tinajo, Lanzarote. The incident happened yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) while the child was on holiday on the island with her family.

Emergency services were alerted and two Local Police officers were among the first to arrive at the property, where they found the young girl was in cardiac arrest due to the amount of water she had swallowed.

The officers immediately began performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation until paramedics arrived and took over with advanced techniques to try and revive her.

They managed to temporarily restore the girl's vital signs and she was transferred for further medical treatment, but despite the efforts to save her, she unfortunately died.

The Guardia Civil has opened an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. No further details regarding her nationality have been officially released.

Fourth child to die following a drowning in Lanzarote this year

The latest incident follows several serious drowning incidents involving children on the island during recent months.

In June, a four-year-old British girl died following a drowning in a hotel swimming pool in Playa Blanca.

Another child was seriously injured in a swimming pool incident in Puerto del Carmen later that month, while a four-year-old French girl died following another drowning at a hotel in Puerto del Carmen in August.

Earlier this month, another child died after suffering a cardiac arrest following a swimming pool incident at a hotel in Playa Blanca.

The latest death in Tinajo brings the number of children who have died following drowning incidents in Lanzarote so far this year to four.
