Almost 20% of target population have had first vaccination in the Canary Islands

The Ministry of Health has reported that 19.39% of the adult population of the Canary Islands (1,871,033 people) has now received at least their first vaccination, which represents 26.7% of the target 1,354,000 people (70% of adult population) or 362,490 people that have been vaccinated. On top of that 124,687 people have already had both doses.

In this sense, the Ministry reminds that scientific evidence has shown that the inoculation of the first dose, although it does not completely immunize against the virus, does protect against developing Covid-19 with serious symptoms, and reduce hospital admissions and deaths.

In total, 487,177 doses of vaccines against Covid-19 have been administered in the Canary Islands, which is 95% of the 512,410 received. Of the total doses administered so far 328,360 were from Pfizer, 26,520 from Moderna and 132,297 from AstraZeneca.

DEVELOPMENT OF THE VACCINATION SCHEDULE:
The vaccination schedule continues its progress through the target population groups, depending on which vaccine is destined for each age group according to the National Vaccination Strategy against Covid-19. The process is continuing on each island without stopping, so some may be inoculating different age groups dependent on population size and demographic.

In this way, the Ministry of Health informs that it has already begun to vaccinate people between 70 and 79 years old, who make up Group 5B, in some of the Islands. This group is being inoculated with the Pfizer and Moderna vaccine.

MORE THAN 38,000 CALLS TO 012:
Between Friday and Sunday, the service for requesting an appointment for the vaccination of Covid-19 activated by 012 for people born between 1952 and 1955 who had not received an SMS with their first appointment, received a total of 38,669 calls.
On Friday this crashed the phone system, but they are confident that it is now working correctly and that everyone is getting dealt with.
