Over the weekend a message in Spanish has been circulating by instant messaging which encourages people in the 50 to 59 years old age group to call to make an appointment for their vaccination. The Ministry of Health says that this is saturating the 012 and Covid patient care lines.
Due to this, they have made an official statement saying that anyone that falls into Group 9, those aged 50 to 59 or born in 1962 to 1970 inclusively, must be patient and wait for them to contact by telephone or SMS for their appointment.
The statement says: “Please don't contribute to the collapse of the telephone lines, as other people that we have asked to call, need them. We ask for patience and understanding. Calls to 012 and other SCS numbers are preventing other people from receiving the service they need. The schedules for the 50-59 age group are still loading, so for now please wait for the official appointment.”
This morning the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, has announced that the mass vaccination of the under 50’s will begin in June, during his speech in the IV Ibero-American Congress of the Business Council Alliance for Ibero-America (CEAPI).
Some autonomous communities have already begun to prepare the immunization schedule for age groups under 50, and even some, such as Castilla-La Mancha and Extremadura, estimate that they will be able to start vaccinating people between 30 and 39 years of age from the end of June. The president said that there are "93 days left to achieve herd immunity in Spain”, which is more than 70% of the target population.
Sánchez also said that the first technical tests of the European digital green certificate are "very positive", which is why he has been convinced that it can be implemented before the end of June and that it will be “excellent news for tourism.”
