During the last week, the Canary Islands Health Service inoculated 110,230 vaccines against Covid-19, a figure that can easily be surpassed this week since the Ministry of Health will have at least 160,000 vaccines at their disposal; 66,252 received in previous weeks, 78,800 that arrived from Pfizer yesterday, and the 14,400 that will come from Moderna in the next few days. In addition, it is not ruled out that new deliveries will be received from AstraZeneca and Janssen throughout the week.

With these, coverage will be accelerated with the first dose in Group 6, made up of 66,000 people that includes police, firemen and teachers. Progress will also be made in the administration of the first dose to the population aged between 50 and 59 years old. The vaccination of this group began last week and 28,164 people have already received their first jab, 8% of the 350,000 people in this age group.

At the moment, people between 50 and 59 years of age are being contacted for vaccination by their health centres in those areas, and islands, in which the vaccination schedule of the over 60’s has already been completed. In fact, 5,600 people over 60 received their first dose without an appointment this weekend at the mass vaccination centres.

Regarding essential workers, a total of 32,744 people, 49.6% of those who make up this group, have already received their first jab, and it is expected that this will reach 100% during the next week.

Up until Sunday, the Canary Islands Health Service had administered 841,128 doses of vaccines against covid-19, of the 907,380 received, with 276,014 people having already been immunized with either two doses or Janssen single dose vaccine, which represents 14.75% of the target population, made up of 1,871,033 people over 16 years of age in the Canary Islands. In addition, there are 576,661 people who have had at least one dose, which is 30.8% of the target population to be vaccinated.

The Ministry of Health reported that in the next few days a new mass vaccination point will be opened in the north of Gran Canaria at the Juan Vega Mateos de Gáldar sports centre. This will come into operation on Thursday and will have the capacity to administer 500 doses a day, according to the City Council of Gáldar.

As for the rest of the groups in the vaccination campaign, it should be noted that the group made up of highly dependent people is now 93.5% immunized.

Group 3, made up of second-line health personnel, is already 100% with one dose and 29.4% with two, while group 7, which is the population under 60 years of age with severe health issues, now has 11,054 people vaccinated with one dose, which 62.3% of the total to be vaccinated.
