HEALTH UNION: ‘The situation in the Canary Islands is crying out for a state of alarm’

The biggest Health Union in the Canary Islands, Intersindical Canaria, said yesterday that in their opinion the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic in the islands is now a "real health emergency" and is "crying out" for the Government of Spain to declare a state of alarm in them, to enable stronger measures against the spread of infections.

At the same time, they have accused the Canary Islands Government of "improvising changes in alert levels” with decisions that, "are contributing to the spread of the virus with its various variants, such as allowing and making the capacity more flexible in closed spaces at the request of vaccinated people."

The organization stated that they suspect that the government are "masking the data in the Canary Islands to the point of not doing enough PCR tests so as not to potentially alarm tourist emitting countries".

Therefore, they believe that it is not surprising that the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC), "in this context", has ruled that "there is no serious danger to health and assistance capacity” as to justify the approval of a night-time curfew.

"The various judicial orders, mainly of the Constitutional Court and Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands, which overthrow and boycott the already lax government measures, place the Judiciary as the best allies of the virus so that it spreads at will", they said.
