Covid update: August ends with 159 cases of Covid and 3 more deaths

The Canary Islands has finished August by adding 159 new cases of coronavirus (63 less than last Tuesday) and continues the downward trend that started 29 days ago on the 2nd of the month. The islands currently have 13,073 active cases (333 less than yesterday) of which 70 are admitted to Intensive Care, 368 are in hospital wards, and 12,635 are in home isolation, according to the data updated by the Canary Islands Health Service.

They have also notified of three Covid deaths in the last 24 hours, two in Tenerife and one in Lanzarote, that raise the total of victims from the beginning of the pandemic to 936. The deceased are two men in Tenerife aged 94 and 70 years old and another in Lanzarote aged 60.

The Accumulated Incidence rate over 7 days has now dropped to 59.88 per 100,000 inhabitants and the IA14 is at 144.63. As you can see below, the incidence rates in all of the islands are dropping now, as are the occupancy rates of hospital and ICU beds with Covid patients, which should lead to Tenerife being reduced to Level 3 on Thursday, as the island has now been in Level 4 longer than any other during the pandemic.

Of the new cases today, Gran Canaria has added the most with 77, followed by Tenerife with 64, Lanzarote registers 10 new infections, Fuerteventura adds another 7 new cases, with 1 in La Gomera, and none in La Palma or El Hierro.
