The latest data from the Ministry of Health reports of 947 new cases of coronavirus in the Canary Islands. Hospital admissions in wards have increased to 442 Covid patients with 82 people in ICU which is a reduction, but unfortunately only because there have been four Covid related deaths, 3 of which are in Tenerife and one in Gran Canaria.
91% of the new cases are in Tenerife (515) and Gran Canaria (353) with 56 in Fuerteventura, 10 in Lanzarote, 7 in La Palma, 5 in La Gomera, and 1 in El Hierro. Incidence rates have continued to rise and the IA7 for the islands is now at 251.61 and the IA14 is at 499.37.
There is good news regarding vaccination as now over 76% of the target population have had at least one jab, and over 61% have been fully vaccinated, as mass vaccination continues for the younger generation without an appointment at the major centres in Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
