The Ministry of Health have reported that the Canary Islands have finished the week with 855 new cases of coronavirus in the archipelago today, with 446 in Tenerife, 325 in Gran Canaria, 53 in Fuerteventura, 21 in Lanzarote, 8 in La Palma, 2 in La Gomera, and none in El Hierro. They have also confirmed two Covid related deaths, both of which were in Tenerife.
Even with 531 medical discharges there are now 13,210 active cases in the islands of which 433 are in wards, 84 are in ICU and 12,693 in home isolation. The R rate of contagion has reduced slightly to 1.12, however, the positivity rate of PCR tests has increased to 11.53%.
Other notable figures today, include the 14-day incidence rate in Tenerife which has reached 602.52, over twelve times the requirement to be classed as a safe destination for tourism. The IA7 in Gran Canaria is now almost 250 and catching up Tenerife (300) as the volume of cases increases, particularly in Las Palmas.
More locally, Arona has now passed Granadilla to be the most infected municipality in the south of Tenerife with 701 cases, and there are currently 2,095 active cases in the south of Tenerife.
Fuerteventura and Lanzarote have seemed to have stabilised the increase of new cases on their islands with approximately 50 a day in Fuerteventura and 20-something a day in Lanzarote, as their incidence rates have also fallen slightly, as you can see below.
