Covid update: 195 new cases and just one death in Gran Canaria

The Canary Islands have registered 195 new positives for Covid today and one more death in Gran Canaria of a 68 year old man with previous pathologies. It is on this island where the most new infections are registered again, with 94 new positives, while in Tenerife there are 79 new cases. Lanzarote adds 16 new cases, and Fuerteventura registers six more in the last 24 hours, with one in La Gomera, meaning they are no longer Covid free.

A total of 669 deaths have now been recorded since the pandemic began, with a cumulative total of 46,597 cases on the islands. There have been 134 discharges in the last 24 hours, and active cases have increased to 4,123, with people 379 hospitalized, of which 86 are in the ICU, and 3,744 are in home isolation.

The first ‘mass vaccination’ centre has opened in the north of Tenerife in the exhibition centre in Los Realejos to service towns in the north of the island, where there are a majority of older people residing. They are inoculating 60 to 65 year olds with the AstraZeneca vaccine and over 80s with the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines in the municipalities in the La Orotava Valley and the Acentejo region.
