Covid update: Canaries has 289 new cases today to add to the 600 over the weekend

The latest data from the Ministry of Health has confirmed 598 new cases of coronavirus in the Canary Islands and 289 new cases today. Nowadays the data over the weekend is provisional until verified on a Monday, hence the update today. Of today's cases, 125 are in Tenerife, 109 are in Gran Canaria, 34 are in Fuerteventura, 17 in Lanzarote, 3 in la Palma, and 1 in La Gomera. They have also confirmed another Covid related death in Tenerife of a 74-year-old man.

Active cases are at 3,411 in the islands with 218 Covid patients in hospitals, and 33 in ICU. Incidence rates have continued to increase with the IA7 at 96.23 and the IA14 is now at 175.33. Gran Canaria’s IA7 is now over 100 and Tenerife’s is at 95 as they try to avoid moving to Level 2 restrictions.

The SCS have confirmed that 28,000 received their booster jab for Covid between last Thursday and Sunday as the walk-in centres in Tenerife and Gran Canaria are now fully operational from 9.30am to 6pm without an appointment.

137,308 booster doses have been administered so far, and people over 60 years of age and those who had the Janssen single-dose vaccine the first time round (regardless of age), are the ones eligible without an appointment.
