Covid update: 717 new cases and 2 deaths in the last 24 hours

The Ministry of Health of the Canary Islands have reported that cases have reduced by over 300 in the last 24 hours, with 717 detected today of which 341 are in Tenerife, 300 are in Gran Canaria, 38 in La Palma, 19 in Fuerteventura, 12 in Lanzarote, 6 in La Gomera and 1 in El Hierro.

In addition, there were two new Covid related deaths confirmed, one in Gran Canaria and another in Tenerife, bringing the sum of people killed by Covid-19 to 808. In the last week, eight people living in the islands have lost their lives to the virus.

In total there are now 11,015 active cases in the islands of which 362 are in hospital on wards, 63 are in ICU and 10,590 are in home isolation. Also Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is now the most infected municipality having more active cases than Santa de Tenerife.

The young people of Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and La Palma were out in force this morning for mass vaccination without an appointment in the four islands. Over 2,000 had their first jab in the first hour that centres were open. There are over 21,000 doses available today and tomorrow from 9am to 7pm in Magma, the Recinto Ferial, Dr Negrin Hospital, and in Expomeloneras, where anyone aged 18 to 29 can turn up without an appointment and be vaccinated.
