Covid update: 107 new infections, active cases in Tenerife now below 1,200

The Canary Islands have started the week by adding 107 new cases of coronavirus that raise the accumulated total number of cases to 55,644 since the pandemic began, of which 1,941 are still active (123 less yesterday). Of these, 50 are admitted to Intensive Care, 233 are on hospital wards, and 1,658 are under home isolation. In addition, there has been one Covid related death in Tenerife meaning that 765 people have now lost their lives during the pandemic.

By islands, Tenerife adds 64 new cases and now has less than 1,200 actives on the island, Gran Canaria has added 27 new cases, Fuerteventura has 8, Lanzarote 7, and La Palma adds 1, whereas El Hierro and La Gomera remain unchanged and in fact only have one active case between them.

The coronavirus outbreak detected in a gym in Lanzarote continues to grow, although more slowly now than when it was first detected, and now reaches 156 positive cases, according to data from the General Directorate of Public Health. This outbreak is the direct cause of the increase in cases that Lanzarote has registered over the last week.

The Accumulated Incidence rate (AI) at 7 days stands at 39.39 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and the AI14 at 81.48.
