Covid update: New cases are below 200 for the second day running

The Ministry of Health have reported 198 new cases of Covid-19 today in the Canary Islands, and four deaths from the virus, three in Gran Canaria and one in La Palma. 413 people have been medically discharged today which has reduced the number of active cases, however, hospital admissions have increased and incidence rates are all but the same as yesterday.

Of the new cases today, Tenerife has the most again with 111 new infections, there are 68 in Gran Canaria, 15 in Lanzarote, 3 in Fuerteventura, 1 in La Palma, and none in La Gomera or El Hierro.

As expected, vaccination rates have slowed down over the last week due to the summer holidays and the gap between first and second jabs. In the last week 96,358 doses have been administered in the Canary Islands at an average of 13,765 per day, which is almost half the 25,000 that were being achieved a few weeks ago.
