Covid update: Over 1,000 new cases today and over 10,000 active cases

The Ministry of Health have updated the epidemiological data of the Canary Islands, which reports of 1,023 new cases today, with 10,393 actives cases in the islands, and two Covid related deaths in Tenerife, one of whom is a 5-year-old boy. The virus is starting to spiral out of control in Gran Canaria who registered 391 new cases today and now have 2,744 active cases in Las Palmas, just 19 less than Santa Cruz.

Tenerife once again registered more than 500 with 529 new cases, there 38 in Fuerteventura, 21 in Lanzarote, 20 in La Palma, 19 in La Gomera, and 1 in El Hierro.

Yesterday the Governing Council announced the changes in the alert levels in the islands, but the Ministry of Health has confirmed that these changes don’t take effect until Monday.

Therefore, this weekend's alert levels are being maintained as follows:
Level 1: La Gomera, El Hierro, and Lanzarote.
Level 2: La Palma and Gran Canaria.
Level 3: Tenerife and Fuerteventura.

From Monday, alert levels will be as follows:
Level 1: El Hierro.
Level 2: Lanzarote and La Gomera.
Level 3: Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and La Palma.
Level 4: Tenerife.

The SCS have confirmed that their vaccination teams have now inoculated 70.63% of the target population (1,384,958 people) with at least one dose of the vaccine, even after it was increased by adding the 12-15 year old age group. Taking over 16s as a reference 73.26% have been vaccinated.

In total they have now administered 2,333,218 doses of the vaccines against COVID-19, with 1,057,910 people fully immunized which is 53.95% of the target population over 12 years of age in the Canary Islands.
