Covid update: Over 90,000 people have been infected and 900 have died in the Canaries

The latest data from the Ministry of Health this afternoon reports of 312 new cases of coronavirus, which means that 90,034 people in the Canary Islands have now tested positive for Covid-19 since the pandemic began. There have also been three more deaths, all in Tenerife, taking the total number of fatalities to 902 in the islands.

Of the new cases today, 148 are in Tenerife, 129 are in Gran Canaria, 18 in Fuerteventura, 11 in Lanzarote, 4 in La Palma, 1 in La Gomera, and 1 in El Hierro. The incidence rates have dropped again for the islands with the IA7 now at 94.90 and the IA14 at 239.30, however, the best news is that the IA7 in Tenerife is now below 100 at 96.92 as the spread of the virus is becoming under control on the island.

Today’s low number of people discharged, which is always lower at the weekend, of 184, means that active cases have increased slightly today to 14,748 with 390 Covid patients in wards and 97 in ICU, leaving 14,261 people in home isolation.

Vaccination wise, the main centres in Tenerife and Gran Canaria are open all weekend for those who have appointments for their second jab, and anyone over 12 years old without an appointment who wants to go for their first vaccination, and the ‘Vacuna-bus’ in Tenerife is at the CD Tenerife Heliodoro stadium today, and the Rastro in Santa Cruz tomorrow, and in Gran Canaria it is in the Jardines del Atlantico in Las Palmas today.
