Covid update: New cases stay below 100 for the third day running

Covid update: New cases stay below 100 for the third day running

The Ministry of Health has reported of 92 new cases of coronavirus in the Canary Islands today, with 37 in Tenerife, 27 in Gran Canaria, 14 in Fuerteventura, 13 in Lanzarote, and 1 in La Palma. No new cases were detected in La Gomera or El Hierro. They have also reported of another Covid related death in Gran Canaria meaning that 973 people have now lost their lives to Covid.

The best news is that active cases have dropped sharply again as 528 people have been medically discharged, to below 4,000 people and in Tenerife there are now more active cases in Adeje in the south than La Laguna in the north of the island.

As usual, the Governing Council will be meeting on Thursday to review the data, and it is hoped that the epidemiological situations in Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura will have evolved enough to see them reduced to Levels 1 and 2 respectively, whereas Tenerife will have to stay at Level 2 for another week, unless they change their system.

There are some restriction changes expected this week regarding outdoor mass events in Levels 1 and 2, and possibly those indoors in arenas and auditoriums.
