The Ministry of Health of the Canary Islands have confirmed 622 new cases of coronavirus today, of which Tenerife has the most with 346 followed by Gran Canaria with 232. The total number of accumulated cases in the Islands is now 70,614 with 8,756 active, of which 56 are admitted to ICU and 319 are hospitalized.
In the last 24 hours, they have reported of the death of 2 people in Tenerife, an 85-year-old man and an 87-year-old woman, the latter linked to the outbreak reported in the Virgen de Begoña II nursing home. Both suffered from previous pathologies and had been admitted to hospital for a long period of time.
They have also reported that the SCS have immunised over 1,000,000 people with full vaccination in the islands, and that over 18s in Tenerife and Gran Canaria can just turn for a vaccination slot without an appointment as they are pushing as hard as possible to reach 70% herd immunity as close to July 31st as possible.
