Covid update: 159 new cases, 123 of them in Tenerife

The archipelago adds 159 new cases of coronavirus today, raising the total number of cases to 58,524 since the start of the pandemic. In addition, the islands do not register any deaths and add 93 epidemiological discharges. The islands now have 1,754 active cases of which 25 are admitted to ICU, 182 are in the hospital wards, and 1,547 are in home isolation, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Health of the Canary Islands.

Tenerife continues with its upward trend in infections and adds 123 new cases today which is 77% of the total, compared to Gran Canaria with 42, Lanzarote with 4, Fuerteventura with 4, and none in the other islands. 70% of all active cases in the archipelago are in Tenerife.

The Accumulated Incidence Rate at 7 days is 44.85 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and the IA14 is 82.86. Lanzarote’s data has now dropped enough that they could be moved to Level 1 later today, whereas Tenerife’s incidence rates are now in Level 3 territory with an IA14 over 125.

Although most of the infections in Tenerife are in the north, the south is by no means Covid free, as this map showing infected areas and incidence rates in those areas verifies:
